The Yale Hall of Graduate Studies, a central building at the Yale university, found at 320 York Street, New Haven, CT, was founded in 1847 but built between 1930-1932, and serves as the oldest graduate school in North America. The graduate school, which now enrolls approximately 2,800 students – one third coming from outside of the country, as well as 900 faculty members; was the first school to give out a PhD in the entire continent. The Graduate School is one of the twelve schools within Yale university and is the only one that awards degrees in Doctorate, and master’s programs.
Windows within this building feature a classical collegiate gothic style found throughout the university and feature leaded glass panels set within metal casement windows, gothic arch windows, metal stacking casement windows, as well as stone set glass traceries. There are over 2,000 windows throughout the building, as well as over 250 decorated stained-glass medallions featured within leaded glass panels. Windows were included at buildings inception in 1932 but have since been restored prior to HGS project commencing in 2018.
As the primary window restoration company on the Yale HGS project, Femenella was responsible for removal of metal casements, abatement, procurement of new metal casement’s, procurement of new leaded panels, and installation of newly made windows. Windows are sourced overseas from Crittall Windows, located right outside of London, England; while the leaded glass panels are fabricated here in the U.S., within Boston area & NYC, and all put together in North New Jersey. Crittall provides all metal window components within a sash/frame & Femenella is responsible for all glass fabrication & installation.
